Major clean-up drive to be held in Manama

Posted on December 27, 2013 at 3:07 PM

PEOPLE are being urged to sign up for a major clean-up drive tomorrow at three locations in Manama.

Organisers are hoping to rally hundreds of volunteers with an initiative called "You for Bahrain". The plan is to clean the beach near the Marina Club, Salmaniya Park and the Salmaniya Water Garden between 10am and 1pm.

It is being organised under the patronage of Manama Municipality director-general Shaikh Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Khalifa in collaboration with Malabar Gold and Diamonds, Gulf City Cleaning Company and Brand Box.

Schools that have signed up to take part include the New Millennium School, Asian School, Pakistan Urdu School and Al Noor International School.

Volunteers will meet at Marina beach at 10am, where they will be divided into three groups and taken to different locations.

"You for Bahrain is an initiative towards a cleaner Bahrain," said organisers.

"As part of our responsibility in giving back to society, we strive to make Manama a better place to live in.

"We believe the environment in which we live mirrors our character and attitudes - and that's exactly what we reflect with this cleanliness drive."

Volunteers are being asked to gather near the Marina beach at 9.45am, from where they will be directed to one of the three chosen locations with a free cap and T-shirt.

"After the cleaning activities, all the teams will come back to Marina beach where they will be awarded certificates and snacks after a photo session," added organisers.
